I feel like we can all pretty much agree that 2016 was a dumpster fire of a year. There was some good makeup, though.
Although I found a ton of really fantastic products, my rule in making this list is that I had to have discovered the product in 2016, used it for 3+ months, and limit the list to only 6 items (am I the only one who doesn’t love a list of 100 favourites?!). Anyhow, here are my top 6 of 2016:
Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadows // Between the Modern Renaissance and the Master Palette by Mario, ABH consistently hit it out of the park with their eyeshadows this year. I reach for one almost every time I do my makeup. Their mattes are buttery smooth, and their shimmers are super wearable.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in Sundipped // Didn’t I say ABH killed it this year? Their Glow Kits changed the way I do my makeup. Before I got Sundipped and (half of) That Glow, I usually used one highlighter each time I did my makeup. Now I mix at least two, even if I’m using singles, and Anastasia is to blame. The Sundipped formula in particular is phenomenal – it’s smooth, blendable, and just shy of metallic.
Coloured Raine Matte Lip Paint in Bachelorette // Coloured Raine is kind of underrated. The formula on their matte liquid lipsticks is phenomenal – smooth, lightweight, transfer-proof, and it doesn’t suck all the life and moisture out of your lips. The shade Bachelorette is like a moody, amped-up rosy brown that’s a nice change from my usual #noodz.
Benefit Ka-BROW! in 05 // This has been a year of brows for me. Ka-Brow is pretty fantastic. It’s a user-friendly brow pomade comparable to the likes of ABH and ColourPop. The colour is phenomenal for me. The formula is easy to use. The packaging is annoying, but for the quality, I’ll forgive it.
Tarte Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Concealer in Deep and Rich // I like this concealer so much, I got it in a darker shade for when I’m more tanned in the summertime. It’s thick, pigmented, and doesn’t crease or slide around. It’s quickly soared to the top of my list of favourite concealers.
Smashbox X-Rated Mascara // After my latest affair with lash extensions, I was looking for a super lengthening and volumizing mascara for my short, thin, straight lashes. This formula delivers insane amounts of length and volume. My only complaint is that I constantly have to scrape the brush off – I wish the stopper removed more of the product when you pull the wand out.
Overall, it was a good year in makeup, but I’m still glad 2016 is
