The Nude Nail Edit
I love nude nails no matter what the season, but they’re especially great for spring. There’s just something so sleek and clean about them. They’re great for work, job interviews, weddings and proms (as a welcome alternative to the French mani, which gets tired around prom time).
These are a few of my favourite nudes.
I struggled to get a hold of Barry M Gelly Nail Paint after hearing wonderful things about it from British beauty bloggers. It’s supposed to be super shiny and durable, and boy is it ever. My mom brought me back two shades from London a few weeks ago, “Lychee” included (thanks, Mom!). It’s quickly become one of my favourite nudes. It’s not too pink or peachy, and has just a hint of grey. It’s a very putty-like shade, I’d say. The formula is opaque in two coats and it lasts nearly a week without chipping.
Next in line is a classic: Essie’s “Ballet Slippers”. As you can see from the bottles above, mine is well loved. Part of that is that I wore it nonstop for all of grade 12; another part of that is that it takes about three coats to build it up to full opacity. A downside of that many layers of polish is that it cracks and chips fast. But while it’s intact, the colour is just fab. It’s a creamy, milky pink that stands out in contrast with my skintone. I love it!
More Essie, but they just do nudes right. “Topless and Barefoot” was a shade in their Resort Collection a few springs past, but they’ve since made it permanent because it is flawless. It’s not too pink, not too beige, and not too grey – it’s the Goldilocks of nude polishes for me, and it’s opaque in two coats. Again, you can see that I’m about half done the bottle…and I will be getting a new one when this one’s done. I would go so far as to call this my favourite polish shade ever!
Finally, I’ve thrown in a polish that probably isn’t technically a nude, but I wear it like one. Essie’s “A Crewed Interest” was limited edition methinks, but I just love it so much. It’s the perfect peachy pink that looks pretty nude on me, but still has enough colour to it that I can wear it on my toes without looking like a corpse. Yay!
Am I missing out on any great nude polishes?
