I have way more 8:30 classes this semester than I would like, and also I’m on campus 4 days a week, which means that I like to try to look (and feel!) polished, but I also like to sleep, you know? So I’ve inadvertently put together a pretty streamlined* routine, doable in 20 minutes before running out the door to the bus. My routine is base-centric – I’m all about flawless, glowing skin, and skip eyeshadow in favour of a perfect bronze/blush-highlight most days. But the beauty of this routine is that you can build on it – if I have extra time, I add winged liner or a simple shadow look. In any case, these are my go-to products for my go-to look.
Primer // I’m not usually a primer gal, but Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer is a game changer.
Foundation // Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation in 420 has been my everyday go-to ever since it launched. It’s lightweight, covers well, stays matte…it’s dreamy, okay?
Colour Correct // I have darkness under my eyes and around my mouth that I always correct with a creamy orange corrector. I’ve been loving the Hard Candy Sheer Envy Color Correct Cushion Wonder does the job really well. The only thing that bugs me is the packaging – with a round spongy applicator, it’s annoyingly messy and unsanitary.
Conceal // Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer in Deep is amazing. This is my second one, and I have two backups because I never ever want to be without it. I conceal under my eyes and a little bit around my mouth as well.
The end result, with a winged liner and ColouredRaine Bachelorette on the lips.
Brows // This step takes the longest. Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Pomade in Ebony is a finnicky product, but the results are worth it. I like a very sharp brow, so I carve it out with a NudeStix Concealer Pencil in 7.
Set // I set my base with a generous helping of Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder in Medium Deep. It adds a little extra coverage, blurs any residual imperfections, and keeps things matte.
Bronze // The Becca Sunlit Bronzer in Maui Nights is so wonderfully easy to use. I dust a little bit on my cheeks, temples, and forehead to add back the dimension.
Highlight // This varies from day to day, but if I’m really in a hurry, I usually pick a gold that’s easy to apply and blends well. Maybelline Master Chrome in 100 Molten Gold has become my default. (Also, highlight before blush makes sure everything is blended together beautifully, avoiding a stripe of gold on the cheek!)
Blush // This varies day to day as well, but I almost always go for a rosy brown blush. MAC Sweet as Cocoa is a fave, but since I got the Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush Kit in Gradient, I’ve been playing with the shades in the palette. They’re super pigmented and matte, so a little goes a long way.
Mascara // I’ve been absolutely loving Essence Lash Princess Mascara in the false lash effect formula. So good – better than a lot of high end mascaras!
Lips// Now, I wear lipstick every day, but I never wear the same shade two days in a row, or even twice in a week. My go-to lipsticks? That’s a tale for another time, and another blog post!
The end result is pretty, polished, and versatile.
The finished look, with Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick in Demi-Glace, which was sent to me free for review.
* It’s streamlined by my standards, considering that I could happily spend an hour or more on my makeup.
