MAC Star Trek Trip the Light Fantastic Powder in Strange New Worlds – Swatches on Dark Skin

When I initially heard about the MAC Star Trek collection, I was excited. I’m not a huge Star Trek fanatic or anything, but I did watch the series after school during high school. It’s iconic in the scifi genre, and MAC is iconic in makeup – it’s a match made in heaven, right?

Maybe not. The actual products in the collection really didn’t wow me or convince me to buy, so I held out. Sure enough, maybe last month, a few residual pieces from the collection went on sale on the Hudson’s Bay website. (These items have since sold out or returned to regular price). I thought that the Trip the Light Fantastic Powder in the shade Strange New Worlds was pretty, and at $25-ish, what did I have to lose, right?

I’m not super familiar with the Trip the Light Fantastic Powder as a product, but as you can see, it has several colours swirled together for a glowy, multidimensional (ha!) finish. The powder is a little stiffer and less buttery than, say, a MAC mineral blush, but it’s somehow still blendable and looks nice on the skin.

The actual shade of the product is very pretty, although this warm, peachy-coral probably won’t show up on me in the summertime when my skin is darker. That’s one of my two complaints – if it were a few shades darker, I think it’d be a lot more versatile. The thing is that it is very sheer. If you’re quite pale, maybe that’s a good thing, but I use this with a pretty heavy hand to get the results I want. When I do, though, it warms and brightens up my face really nicely – on days where I use it I usually skip bronzer, and I could almost skip highlight, but realistically, that’ll never happen. 🙂

Also, thanks to my best friend/enabler-in-chief, CC, for convincing me that this blush would actually show up on me and look nice!
