Lip Balms I Love But Never Talk About

Ah, lip balm. An essential part of a balanced beauty diet…or something like that.

For realsies though, I love lip balm. I have pretty dry and sensitive lips, though, and quickly learned that not all balms are created equal. As a result, I repurchase some of the same ones over and over, but for some reason I never talk about them on here. Thus this post was born.

Bite Agave Lip Mask // This is one that’s grown on me. I didn’t like it when I first tried it, but it soothed my lips and made them so soft after swatching tons of lipstick shades as part of my Bite Beauty Lip Lab visit in Toronto. This makes an amazing nighttime lip balm because it’s very thick and kind of sticky – it’s still there when I wake up in the morning. The only downside is the steep price tag.

Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker// Talk about a throwback – am I the only one who had like 4000 Lip Smackers in various flavours as a child? Nobody needs that many lip balms. My makeup-hoarding habits started early, friends. Anyway, this is my favourite lip balm for kissing boys. (Is it weird that I have a favourite lip balm for that?) The consistency is nice, it’s moisturizing, and it tastes good, hence why it is my favourite for this particular activity. It’s also my favourite for layering underneath drying or patchy lipsticks, be they liquid or bullet. It’s cheap, yummy, effective, and available at your local drugstore.

Smith’s Rosebud Salve // This is the best lip balm I’ve ever used. I have tins of this all over my house, tubes of it in every purse – I will repurchase until I die and if they discontinue it I’m sure I’ll die. When my lips are at their angriest, driest, and most chapped, I put on a thick layer of this and it softens the dead skin enough that I can buff it away with a lip scrub or a damp washcloth. Seriously, the best. And it’s like $8. There’s no reason for you not to have it.
