It’s no secret whatsoever that I love nude lipsticks. And when it comes to liquid lipsticks, Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are some of my favourites (Lolita and Bow n Arrow mixed together are everything). So I had to pick up one of her new shades, Sanctuary, during the first round of the Monthly Everlasting Flash program.
In the most brilliant marketing strategy ever, Kat is partnering with Sephora to release a new shade of liquid lipstick available for only 48 hours on the first Wednesday of each month. Sanctuary is first up in this program, with many nude shades to follow – you can be sure that I’ve got my eye on one or two others.
Shades that I thought would be similar, for reference L-R: KVD Bow N Arrow, KVD Sanctuary, Huda Beauty Spice Girl, KVD Lolita
Sanctuary is described as a cool sepia. It’s much darker than I anticipated based on other swatches (on light skin), which is nice because I can wear it without liner. It also has much more purple or mauve in it than I anticipated, but I think it’s a beautiful and unique colour. I swatched it with a few other shades that I thought would be similar and it’s different enough from all of them to justify owning them all. 😉
In terms of formula and application, like some Kat Von D liquid lip shades, it’s a little patchy at first. Two coats gets the job done for me, which is fine because it layers well and doesn’t get sticky or crumbly. I find it comfortable to wear – it’s fairly lightweight and not too drying. I also like that it doesn’t crack or crumble on me. Patchiness aside, in terms of performance and feel on the lips, it’s right on par with her other liquid lipsticks. Consistency within a line is something I appreciate.
Sanctuary will be back in stock permanently at the end of the month.
