BITE Beauty Lip Lab Toronto Experience – Swatches on Dark Skin (and Lots of Photos!)

Bite Beauty is an awesome Canadian brand using all food-grade ingredients. I have wanted to go to the Bite Beauty Lip Lab in New York to make a custom lipstick since I learned of its existence a few years ago. So when I heard that there was a new flagship Bite Lip Lab in downtown Toronto, I asked my mom if we could go when I was visiting her for Reading Week. I knew I wanted to make a rosey-brown, everyday colour similar to MAC Whirl, because #noodzarelife. But upon learning that one lipstick is $55 CAD and two are $80, I opted for two, and settled on a berry for the second one.

MAC x Taraji (AKA MAC’s Big Mistake)

I am 200% here for Taraji P. Henson, but MAC messed up. Big time.

Taraji is a badass Black woman playing a badass Black character and she’s beautiful to boot. MAC doesn’t release a lot of collections in collaboration with Black folk, and I love seeing people who look like me represented, so I knew I needed something from this collection. I settled on the blush, Taraji Glow, because I thought the highlighter (Highlight the Truth) was dupable elsewhere and not that special. So when the collection came online, I ordered Taraji Glow. Imagine my confusion when a highlighter labelled “Taraji Glow” showed up a few days later.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette – Swatches on Dark Skin

A few months ago, everyone lost their minds over the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette, and with good reason.

When it comes to pigmentation in palettes, ABH have a pretty strong track record (the World Traveler palette is still my bbg), and Modern Renaissance taps into the warm-tone palette craze. That’s fine by me, because there are few things I love in this world the way I love an orange crease.

Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Crème

Look. I adore Kat Von D. I had the biggest crush on her on L.A. Ink because she was so cool and laidback and funny. Her liquid lipsticks are some of my favourites in my collection (um, hello Lolita). Nothing beats her Tattoo Liner. The original Lock It Tattoo Concealer is my favourite for covering blemishes. However, her foundation and powder shades for dark skin tend to be hopelessly out of touch with what actual dark skin looks like, and her contour kit is way too light to contour anyone darker than an NC40 or so.

So when I heard that Kat was reformulating her complexion line, adding shades, and bringing out a new Concealer Crème, I was excited and hopeful! Concealer is one of my staple makeup products, so you can bet I was down to try hers.

Worth The Hype? Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops

This review is inspired by my friend Vanesa’s Worth The Hype? reviews over on The Beauty Anecdote. And what better place for me to start my version of the series than with the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops?

They’ve been ubiquitous on social media, and I absolutely adore highlighters, so I had to get my hands on them.
The shade Candlelight – a true, pale gold – seemed like a safe choice, especially considering the fact that I am generally pretty skeptical of liquid highlighters.

A Lipstick Worth Waiting For

Last summer, at Sephora, I must have longingly swatched the Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in 1993 about a thousand times. It was always sold out. (That summer, almost everything Urban Decay was always sold out, but that’s a different story.)

When they announced that the Matte Revolution lipsticks were going to be discontinued, I was heartbroken. Then Urban Decay announced that 1993 would be making a comeback in their new Vice Lipstick range…and I began counting down the days until the release.

Let me tell you – it’s worth the wait.

Makeup Shouldn’t Be This Hard to Get: A Too Faced Sweet Peach Rant/Review

Too Faced Sweet Peach. It’s on everybody’s lips (and, it seems, on everybody’s lids). Naturally, I want to talk about it too, but I can’t talk about this palette without talking about how difficult it was to get it.

I have mine and am happy with it overall, which perhaps gives me no right to complain, but I’m going to complain anyways because it needs to be said:
Makeup shouldn’t be this difficult to get.

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer (and Two Other Favourites)

I’m a little skeptical of Too Faced. I think that their marketing (AKA hype) and packaging (juvenile bordering on tacky) tend to outshine their products. However, a free full-size product (especially an unreleased, just-announced one!) is nothing to sneeze at, so when I saw that they were giving out their new Born This Way Concealer at Generation Beauty in Toronto, there may or may not have been some running and elbowing to get in line. (There was. Literally. But that’s a tale for another time.)

Concealer has to be one of my favourite makeup products. Gimme concealer and brows and I feel all perky and new. I’ve tried a lot of concealers, so I like to think that I have a pretty good frame of reference. As such, I thought it would be useful to compare this newbie concealer to some well-known formulas in the concealer world: one of my old faves, and one of my new faves.
